How many people play Apex Legends? Player count in 2023
Apex Legends continues to remain one of the most popular battle royale games globally. But how many people are actually playing Apex Legends in July 2023? Here’s everything we know about Apex’s player count.
Apex Legends‘ success was a surprise to the developers at Respawn Entertainment, who didn’t expect their entry into the battle royale genre to take off as it did.
Despite Respawn’s timid expectations, the Apex Legends player count hit 1 million within the first 24 hours of release back on February 4, 2019. By the end of the first week, it had reached 25 million players, and then 50 million in the first month.
But, over four years on, how many people play Apex Legends now, in 2023?
More than 130 million players have dropped into Apex Legends over its lifetime. This figure was estimated in 2022, and so will be much higher now.
On April 14, 2021, Respawn announced that Apex Legends had hit 100 million players in total. This will have been boosted thanks to the release of the game on Steam and Nintendo Switch.
In EA’s earnings call in February 2022, the publisher said that monthly active players in Apex were “up more than 30% year-over-year in Q3.”
“With more than 28 million new players joining in the last year and new seasons and in-game events that continue to deliver new experiences to a deeply engaged community, FY 2022 is the biggest year yet for Apex.”
While the exact figure wasn’t revealed, we can at least assume somewhere around 130 million total players have now played the game since.
In 2023, the Apex Legends player count is estimated to be approximately 15 to 16 million weekly active players.
Back in August 2021, EA revealed that Apex Legends averages 13 million weekly active players. Season 9 also set a new record for daily peak players across all seasons.
In their earnings call in February 2022, EA said that Apex Legends had a 30% growth in new players year-over-year for the second year in a row.
Apex Legends live player count
As of July 2023, we can get an accurate player count measurement using Steam data. With Season 17 running, Apex Legends’ latest all-time peak player count is 446,463 – a bit lower than what it was in June.
The average concurrent players in May 2023 was 227,947 on Steam only. Given that many players will be on console, Switch, and on PC through the EA App, the overall number could be as high as one million concurrent players.
Steam is the only platform to reveal accurate player count statistics accessible through their API. Other platforms such as Xbox, PlayStation, Origin, or Nintendo Switch do not reveal player numbers.
Apex Legends launched on Steam in November 2020, and since then has hit new records on the platform with each successive season, peaking at over 620,000 in Season 16.
Other popular FPS games that were recently released also have their stats available.
Warzone 2 is now available on Steam as part of Modern Warfare 2. In November 2022, Warzone 2/MW2 reached 488,000 peak players on Steam, with an average of 177,000.
We will continue to update this article to reflect player data each month, so make sure and stay tuned on how many players are logging into Apex Legends each day.
