How many people play Fortnite? Player count in 2023

With the onset of Chapter 4 Season 3, Fortnite is experience a surge of player activity with the latest Futurama crossover. Due to this, several players are logging in Fortnite ever since the beginning of 2023 to experience the new content changes. Here are all the stats along with its current player count.

Fortnite has seen a dramatic rise in popularity from 2017 to 2023 and continues to embed itself as one of the most popular battle royale games out there, threatening to shadow the likes of Warzone, Apex, Overwatch, and more.

After all, with a free-to-play model and a large community looking to enjoy the gameplay, collaborations, and crossovers with huge mainstream names like Ariana Grande, Travis Scott, and Marvel appearing on the title.

With plenty of work still going into the game, and Creative 2.0 reigniting many players’ love for Fortnite, it begs the question: How many people play Fortnite as we head into 2023? Is the battle royale title slowly dying, or on an upwards trajectory? Here’s what the stats say.

Fortnite player count in 2023

Like a lot of popular game publishers, Epic doesn’t regularly share Fortnite player count information with the community, so it’s hard to get an exact number. However, there are still some snippets of info out there.

Epic Games reported back in 2020 that there were more than 350 million registered users on Fortnite, and that number rose to 400 million by 2021. It was likely even higher in 2023, although there are no official numbers yet.

Of course, this list of registered users will also include people who signed up and only ever played one or two games, so it isn’t necessarily reflective of how many people actively play Fortnite on the regular.

For that information, we can look at a website like ActivePlayer. According to their figures, Fortnite saw an average of 239 million monthly players in the last 30 days at the time of writing, with the peak player number in a single day reaching 15 million.

This is a third-party estimate that hasn’t come directly from Epic, so it’s hard to say if it’s totally accurate, but it’s the closest we’ve got to a real-time player count for now.

It’s also worth pointing out that these numbers tend to increase dramatically when Fortnite hosts live events. During the Chapter 2 Season 4 finale event, for example, 15.3 million concurrent players took part to help defeat Marvel villain Galactus.

So, is Fortnite dying?

With millions of players logging in every day throughout 2022, and live events still getting plenty of attention, it’s safe to say that Fortnite is not dying. Even in its quiet months, it’s still a hugely popular game.

While Fortnite did go through a rough period towards the end of Chapter 2, players are flocking back to the game after the release of Chapter 4 which introduces new weapons, dirt bikes, and so much more.

The previously added Dragon Ball Super crossover also brought plenty of hype to the game, as anime fans flocked to Fortnite to purchase skins and unlock cosmetics. So, it appears that Epic’s battle royale is here to stay.

Regardless of whether Fortnite is growing or shrinking though, its impact on gaming culture will live on forever – even if the Island (or Jonesy) doesn’t.
