The upcoming 4.0 update for Genshin Impact will introduce players to the Fontaine region, alongside some new weapons and artifacts. So here’s everything we know about the update so far, including characters, banners, events, and more.

Genshin Impact’s Sumeru region will receive its final update in version 3.8 before HoYoverse’s gacha game gears up for the release of the new Fontaine region, which is the land of the Hydro Archon.

The region of Fontaine has a focus on urban life as it’s an industrious empire with big cities. Travelers will face a number of new challenges and dangerous enemies as they explore this new environment. Players will be able to access a lot of new content in the 4.0 update so here’s everything we know about it so far.

Genshin Impact 4.0 livestream

The official Genshin Impact 4.0 livestream took place on August 4, 2023. It featured a number of details about upcoming content that is set to release during the 4.0 update.

Is there a Genshin Impact 4.0 release date?

The Genshin Impact 4.0 update will launch on August 16, 2023.

The release date was officially confirmed by HoYoverse during the 4.0 livestream.

Genshin Impact 4.0 trailer

A brand new trailer for the 4.0 update was shared during the livestream event on August 4, 2023. The 5-minute clip shows footage of brand-new characters in action, as well as a handful of the environments players can visit across the Fontaine region.

Genshin Impact Fontaine characters

A handful of new characters will be introduced to the world of Teyvat during the 4.0 update. A teaser entitled ‘Overture Teaser: The Final Feast’ was released on July 3, 2023, which gave fans their first official look at some new fighters.

Lyney, Lynette, and Freminet will be the main editions to the playable character roster in the Fontaine region but there will be plenty of other new faces for Travelers to meet on the next step of their journey.

4.0 Banners

During the official livestream HoYoverse revealed a handful of details about the game’s upcoming banner schedule. Lyney and Lynette will debut in Phase 1 of the update, while Freminet will by introduced in Phase 2. The following characters will be featured in the upcoming banners:

Phase 1: 

• Lyney (Pyro)
• Lynette (Ameno)
• Yelan (Hydro)

Phase 2:

• Freminet (Cyro)
• Zhongli (Geo)
• Childe (Hydro)

Fontaine region

The biggest addition to the 4.0 update is the brand-new Fontaine region.

According to HoYoverse, the water-surrounded region “offers a one-of-a-kind underwater adventure in some of its areas.” An underwater traversal mechanic is being added to the game specifically for the new region where “players will not run out of oxygen thanks to a special blessing granted to them but instead consume Aquatic Stamina when sprinting.”

Combat will also be performed underwater, and some characters will even be able to absorb abilities from aquatic creatures to utilize in battle. These mechanics will certainly be helpful when dealing with the new Fontaine bosses, which include a dancing clockwork meka duo, and the heavily Armored Crablord “Emperor of Fire and Iron”.

Genshin Impact 4.0 update events

A handful of events will also be available to players during the 4.0 update.

These include the “Mega Meka Melee” where you’ll have to aid the local Clockwork Workshop prepare for a big commission by playing what looks like a series of mini-games.

For those looking for a combat challenge the ‘Verdict of Blades” event will see Travelers fighting against legoins of powerful enemies. Little is known about all of the events so far, however, we’ll be sure to update this page as soon as more information is revealed.
