Beef Season 2: Everything we know

Ali Wong and Steven Yeun in BeefNetflix

Will there be a Beef Season 2 on Netflix? The dramedy show from Dave writer Lee Sung Jin has risen the ranks in the streamer’s top 10 chart, but can fans expect a second season?

Beef, which Netflix released in partnership with A24 Studios, follows Ali Wong’s Amy Lau and Steven Yeun’s Danny Cho as they get caught up in a road rage feud, causing their lives and relationships to unravel.

Alongside Wong and Yeun as the lead characters, the 10-episode series stars Joseph Lee, Young Mazino, David Choe, Patti Yasutake, Maria Bello, and Ashley Park.

Will there be a Beef Season 2?

Beef Season 2 has not been announced by Netflix, but it’s still early days, and creator Lee Sung Jin certainly has some big ideas if the show were to return.

Although the finale wrapped the story up in a nice little bow, Jin told Rolling Stone: “I wanted it to have a conclusive feel just in case, but there are a lot of ideas on my end to keep this story going.

“I think should we be blessed with a Season 2, there’s a lot of ways for Danny and Amy to continue. I have one really big general idea that I can’t really say yet, but I have three seasons mapped out in my head currently.”

He also told Elle: “Cards on the table, we did pitch this show as a limited anthology, so there is sort of a close-ended-ness to the story [of Danny and Amy]. But, if given the opportunity, of course, I’d love to explore them further, because Danny and Amy, I love those characters. But yeah, by design, though, this a close-ended narrative.”

Though Netflix has been known to be a little unpredictable with its renewal schedule, generally it’ll wait at least a month in order to take stock of those crucial first 28 days.

Ultimately, it’ll come down to stats – how long will it stay in the top 10 chart? And do the viewing figures and revenue outweigh the cost of production? These are all questions Netflix will be able to answer – once it does, we’ll be sure to keep this post updated.

What’s certain is that Beef has gone down a treat with the critics, with Entertainment.ie going as far as to saying it’s “the best original show on Netflix in years.” Elsewhere, Inverse wrote: “Beef has all the teeth of today’s most withering social satires, and more perspective and wit than most ‘eat the rich’ thrillers.”

However, the show has been mired in controversy due to allegations against its cast member David Choe, which you can read more about here. Whether or not this has impacted a renewal is yet to be seen.
